Understanding Carbon Neutral Flooring
Carbon-neutral flooring products have a net-zero embodied carbon footprint across their entire life cycle, meaning the total CO2 emissions from production, transportation, installation, use, and disposal are balanced by the CO2 removed from the atmosphere.
WHAT IS EMBODIED CARBON?
Embodied carbon includes all greenhouse gas emissions (mainly CO2) from raw material extraction and the installation of building materials. These emissions are released during the production of building components and continue throughout the building's life cycle, contributing significantly to a building's total carbon footprint. These emissions play a crucial role when combined with operational carbon emissions (from heating, cooling, lighting, and maintenance). Smart choices during design and construction can substantially reduce this carbon footprint. It's estimated that for new buildings constructed in the next decade, 80% of their greenhouse gas emissions will come from embodied emissions.

- Local Sourcing: We partner with manufacturers who source over 95% of raw materials within 800 kilometres of their facilities, reducing transportation-related emissions.
- Low-Carbon Materials: Our grout and mortars have low embodied carbon.
- Sustainable Composition: Our porcelain tile is made from inorganic, non-carbon-containing raw materials.
Porcelain tile has the lowest embodied carbon among competitive floor coverings. Its longevity reduces the need for replacements, lowering manufacturing, construction, demolition, and waste management emissions.
